Welcome to Halcyon Hounds
My name is Emma and my passion is helping people and dogs gain confidence, have fun and achieve their goals.
I have worked with dogs for many years as a trainer, home boarder, dog walker, rescue volunteer and foster carer.
My formal qualifications include:
- Level 5 ISCP Dog Trainer Diploma
- Canine Hoopers UK Advanced Instructor
- IMDT Level 3 Home Boarding Qualification
- Canine First Aid trained
I am also studying for my Level 5 ISCP Behaviour Diploma and regularly complete many different forms of CPD.
I am assisted by my husband Mark, son Sam, our three collies, Frog, Blue, and Ziggy, and our pocket rocket and tiny terrier cross chihuahua, Panda.
We enjoy general training, hoopers, obedience, agility, trick training, tracking, working trials, long walks, caravan holidays and snuggles on the sofa!
Welcome to Halcyon Hounds where we offer puppy training, dog training, hoopers and home boarding.
Our training methods are reward based, kind and enjoyable for both dogs and handlers.
Trust, communication, understanding and fun, help to build great partnerships
We met Emma when our puppy started showing signs of being fearful of people, Emma got in touch and arranged a Zoom chat, as it was in the middle of a lock down, she gave us lots of great training ideas and strategies to help us make Jessie feel more comfortable around people, at her own pace.
I also wanted to attend training classes with Emma for Jessie. Emma helped myself and Jessie through our anxiety of being in a class of people when she was so unsure and made both of us feel comfortable. Jessie did brilliantly and we’re now looking forward to more lessons!
Highly recommend Emma and Halcyon Hounds to anyone and their dogs whatever the circumstances."

Emma is a fantastic trainer and my dog Ruby and I love to train with her. Ruby can be a bit sensitive and unsure in new situations, and Emma has always been wonderful in taking care of our needs and adapting the session accordingly.
Joining Emma's sessions has honestly been life-changing for us and Ruby grew a lot in confidence since. She's a great teacher and we always have lots of fun with her. She really gets the best out of you and your dog and she's very supportive, kind, and knowledgeable.
Thank you so much Emma for everything you have done for us!"

I have been working with Emma with my border collie Jake initially on a recall course and then in hoopers classes. Jake is a nervous collie and Emma is so understanding and has an abundance of patience and knowledge of the breed. I have learned so much, had lots of fun and have a happy dog that now comes back when I call him!
Thanks so much Emma, I highly recommend your services!"

Emma has been working with me and my reactive Saluki X, Luna, for the past few months and her advice has been invaluable. Both Luna and I have benefited from her friendly, calm and sensible approach - she has great empathy and patience, carefully explaining the reasons behind different approaches and tactics. We have had several breakthroughs in Luna's behaviour and I feel more confident that happy walks, with a dog that doesn't over react, are not far off.
Emma has also been a source of useful contacts and information on all matters 'dog-related' and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her."

I thoroughly recommend Halcyon Hounds. The training classes are well structured and professional yet still still fun - my puppy has really enjoyed the experience. Emma is an excellent coach, brilliant with the dogs (and owners!)"

Emma is extremely knowledgeable, she always keeps up to date and attends regular courses and seminars to continually develop her skills. In addition to this Emma is a kind and approachable trainer who explains things well regardless of whether you are a beginner with your first dog or more experienced.
I have attended Emma’s lessons for Agility, Hoopers and her standard classes and I have witnessed first-hand her enthusiasm and supportive manner. Emma is sympathetic to both the dogs and people and is always happy to amend things to accommodate exercises to suit both the dog and handler.
I have recommended Emma many a time to others and have always received positive feedback from these people too. All in all if your needs are just a well balanced pet dog or if you want to excel in dog activities I cannot speak highly enough of Emma and am confident that you will find her classes / one 2 ones both helpful and enjoyable."

I have known Emma and been a client of Emma's for almost 10 years. She has helped me with training my two dogs, both with very different needs. I have always found Emma to be extremely knowledgeable and relatable. She caterers for your personal abilities and requirements and always puts the welfare of your dog at the fore front.
Emma focuses on reward based training and is very positive in her delivery. She adjusts her delivery depending on her audience. So she can support first time dog owners through to experienced owners and dogs will behavioural challenges.
I have always found Emma's after-care training support to be second to none. It's very easy to go off track when training your dog, so a quick check in can make all the difference.
Personable, knowledgeable, trustworthy. Emma truly advocates for dogs and anyone working with here is extremely lucky to have her support."

Emma, thank you so much for your support and guidance with our crazy cocker!! Our first interaction was over zoom (due to COVID) and even then we learnt some valuable things to support with recall. Following a further workshop on lead walking we moved to foundation and intermediate skills lessons.
You are such a great trainer and impart so much knowledge. We’ve really enjoyed training and learning with you and now have so many skills we can use going forward!"
